Barrett, Constance E. (Cello)
Cellist Constance Barrett excels in the classic style of the instrument and has taken it in to the realms of world music. She is a melodic improviser who uniquely blends sounds from the Far East to the West. Her playing has evolved not only from her love of Bach, Haydn, Mahler, Shostakovich and the Anglican Church music of her childhood, but from her exposure to the great spiritual music of the world. The Republique of Seines-et-Marnes, France has praised her as "a musician of rare sensitivity." For this reason, Kani is a sought-after musical director and collaborator, performing music through the United States and Western Europe. She has appeared on national network television as musical director and cellist of Camaraterie Strings. Kani’s interest in other stringed instruments has led her to the Finnish kantele and jouhikko as well as the hauntingly mystical waterphone.
