Micah Everett is Professor of Low Brass at the University of Mississippi, where he teaches applied trombone, euphonium, and tuba, conducts the trombone ensemble and tuba-euphonium ensemble, and teaches the undergraduate low brass methods course as well as graduate courses in brass literature and brass pedagogy. A Mississippi native, Everett was first trombonist in the Mississippi Lions All-State Band before attending Delta State University, where he received the Bachelor of Music Education degree, and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, where he received the Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees. His primary low brass teachers at the university level were Randy Kohlenberg, Dennis AsKew, and Edward R. Bahr. Prior to joining the Ole Miss faculty in 2012, Everett held teaching positions at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, the University of Northern Iowa, Elon University, and UNCG.

Author of the 2014 book The Low Brass Player's Guide to Doubling from Mountain Peak Music, Everett performs regularly as a solo or ensemble musician on alto, tenor, and bass trombones, baritone horn, euphonium, and tuba in a variety of genres. He is currently principal trombonist in the North Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, tubist/bass trombonist in the Mississippi Brass Quintet, and an S.E. Shires trombone artist. As part of the Insanity Brass Duo, Everett has given several exciting multi-instrument recitals with his colleague from the University of South Carolina, Michael Wilkinson. A past Eastern Trombone Workshop (now American Trombone Workshop) solo competition winner, he has performed more than thirty times as a featured soloist with bands and orchestras both domestically and overseas. He has appeared as a clinician, soloist, ensemble musician, or conductor at the International Trombone Festival, the American Trombone Workshop, the International Tuba-Euphonium Conference, the National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors conference, the annual Trombonanza festival in Santa Fe, Argentina, and numerous regional conferences and workshops. His first solo recording, Stepping Stones for Bass Trombone, Vol. 1, was released by Potenza Music in 2015, followed by a second volume in 2022. He was awarded Artist Fellowships by the Mississippi Arts Commission in 2017 and 2023.

Everett is an active member of the International Trombone Association, where from 2004-2024 he served as Assistant Editor (Audio/Video Reviews) for the ITA Journal. He is Mississippi Chairperson for the National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors, and is a member of the International Tuba-Euphonium Association, the Historic Brass Society, and the Pi Kappa Lambda, Phi Kappa Phi, and Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Societies. His arrangements for brass soloists and ensembles have been published by Potenza Music, Cimarron Music Press and TAP Music, and his articles and reviews have appeared in the International Trombone Association Journal, the Historic Brass Society Journal, the National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors Journal, The Instrumentalist, and School Band and Orchestra Magazine. His blog, The Reforming Trombonist, is read regularly by hundreds of visitors from around the world.

In addition to his professional activities, Everett is a Ruling Elder and Interim Director of Music at College Hill Presbyterian Church, and a member of The Gideons International. In 2011 he received a Certificate in Systematic Theology from Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary. His articles and reviews on theological and devotional topics have appeared in Modern Reformation, Puritan Reformed Journal, and The Banner of Sovereign Grace Truth.
