Nancy Sullivan has been a member of the faculty at Northern Arizona University since 1994, where she is currently Principal Lecturer in Horn and Chamber Music. She earned a Master of Music in Horn Performance from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston where she worked with Gunther Schuller and Jean Rife. She also holds a Bachelor of Music in Horn performance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where she studied with Douglas Hill and Nancy Becknell. Ms. Sullivan received a performers' certificate in chamber music from the Banff Centre for the Arts Advanced Studies in Music-Winter session, and attended the Banff Chamber Music program for 5 summers.

Summer studies also included the Blossom and Sandpoint Music Festivals. She has been a member of the Atlanta Opera and Ballet Orchestras, the Arcadian Wind Quintet, the Bloch Festival Orchestra, the Boston Philharmonic, the Banff Opera Orchestra, and has performed with the Atlanta, Omaha, Portland, Madison, Columbus, Greenville, San Juan and Mexico City Symphony Orchestras, in addition to touring as Mozart Concerti soloist with the New England Chamber Orchestra in Europe and Asia. Nancy completed a 2 week tour of China with the Elden Brass, performing and teaching master classes. Nancy has been a member of Schuller’s New England Ragtime and Monk Ensembles, and performed with klezmer, blues, and jazz groups while free-lancing in Seattle and Boston. Nancy has attended master classes and/or worked personally with John Cage, Yo Yo Ma, Alexander Schneider, Benjamin Zander, Don Byron, Samuel Baron, Howard Johnson, Froydis Ree Wekre, Aldo Parisot, Leon Fleischer, Bruno Canino, and Iannis Xenakis.

In addition to teaching horn and chamber music at NAU, Nancy is principal with the Flagstaff Symphony, is a member of the Kokopelli and Elden Brass Quintets, the NAU Faculty Chamber Players, substitute horn with the Phoenix and Tucson Symphonies, past member of the Flagstaff Festival Orchestra, and performed in the Arizona Opera Orchestra’s productions of Wagner’s Ring cycle.

In addition to her work as a performer and educator, Nancy has been involved with animal advocacy for many years. She has coordinated adoptions and fostered for the Arizona Pug Rescue and Adoption Network.
